We recently connected with Sue Carlton and have shared our conversation below.
Sue, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Folks often look at a successful business and imagine it was an overnight success, but from what we’ve seen this is often far from the truth. We’d love to hear your scaling up story – walk us through how you grew over time – what were some of the big things you had to do to grow and what was that scaling up journey like?
My farm journey started 2019, through Medicinal and Recreational Cannabis. When I first pivoted to CBD Hemp after 10 years of experience working with Cannabis I knew immediately why I was there. To elevate the standard of what is considered Industrial Hemp through high-grade smokeable flower to everlasting aroma creations of genetics. There was no original farm, it was me in an apartment navigating the broker space of CBD biomass sales and consulting projects from edible lines to work force ergonomics. This allowed me to save, to connect and allow myself to be entangled into an industry where I would later rely off of these happenings. Understanding my occupation or field really allowed me to become multi-faucet and would give me the resources to rent my first farm parcel. Everything has always been done on the motto coined by Cee from Green Hefa Farms “we grow slow so we don’t owe. While we never have accepted investments, our friends and family have invested hours into our farm to help us succeed as a small business competing against big Pharma. ”
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
HIGHH, I am Sue the owner of Ranchera Familia a licensed industrial Hemp CBD farm in Fresno County. I am a third-generation Latina farmer. Ranchera Familia is focused on cultivating regeneratively flower for human consumption. We grow in tandem with the land, animals, and people.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
You have to be a good person first, you have to have morals, ethics, compassion and knowledge to lead a great team.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Currently I have 119k followers on Instagram, the way I built my social media was coming through to finding myself – when you can be yourself authentically I firmly believe it allows you to create natural content. As a Latina in Cannabis it was important for me to showcase who I am and be a positive role model and contributor to the agriculture industry. Social media allows me to do this.
